Trunk release answer... 200 1983

Did the same job on my 1984 244DL. Piece of cake - complicated cake.

The motor is wired similar to the ww motor, it has a "park" position. When you press the button (mounted in the upper left corner of the glove box where the factory made a spot for it), the motor will make exactly one revolution unless you hold the button down a long time. 5 seconds is adequate.

The button you got should have two spade connectors. One is for an SB (black) wire to fuse #1 (hot all the time), the other is for an SB wire that runs all the way to the motor via a 2-wire connector. From the connector to the motor it is GN.

The motor has a BN or SB wire that's to ground. Use a mounting screw nearby, with an inside-toothed ,locking washer.

The other wire from the motor to the 2-wire connector is GR, comes out GN, and connects to the spade lug on the trunk light. That wire comes from Fuse #8 and is hot all the time.

You can use a little tap-in connector like what U-Haul uses on their hitch connections for the wiring. There's a technical word for that, I forgot it.

There is no relay in the circuit.

It is easy to get the SB wire from the button into the trunk, if yo pull the back seat partly out. The bench comes out by sticking your hands into the crevice in the rear of it, grip it, use your knees to push the bench rearward, and then pull up on the back of it.

The back can stay in the car. You will see a bolt holding it down on each side, near the wheel well. Take out both bolts, and unbend the metal tabs. Pull the bottom of the back towards the dome light and prop it there.

Look up under the back to the spot where the package tray ends. Up in there you should see a chunk of foam rubber sorta stuffed in there. It plugs an odd-shaped hole and can be removed. There is room to slip the wire from the button in between the foam rubber and the edge of the odd-shaped hole. Best to strengthed the insulation on the wire with whatever you have handy. Long piece of shrink tubing, hospital IV tubing, whaterver.

Of course you are running that wire under the carpets, with each RH door's sill cover pulled up so as to the a right professional job.

It's neat to use the trunk release, I enjoyed having it. HOWEVER, the 1986 and younger trunk lids will fit the earlier models, they have the better trunk lock system and it's connected into the central locking system.

That's another story.

Good Luck,

Bob

PS. If you intend to work on, upgrade, and otherwise mess with the wiring, I recommend that you own the Volvo Service Manual Wiring Diagrams for your model. 1-800-25-VOLVO or www.volvocars.com/lit.
