Interference engine and the broken timing belt (Has anybody had this happen to them...) 200 1982

First let me say, RIP to the BRV. She has passed on officially. I no longer drive the volvo. She is sitting here forlorn.

My new ride has an interference engine, and it is not a volvo. But you guys are so helpful and I cant find another site like this for my new car. Sunday, I heard a hesitant tapping sound. I had done some work under the hood and thought I had forgotten to remove one of the old bolts I had replaced and it had fallen down into the fan shrout. I drove it to dinner, and took the long slow way home. I looked with a flashlight. Got down on my knees and saw nothing. Monday, I drove the 1.5 to work and asked the mechanic next door to take a look. He said, "nothing is in there. Your engine is knocking." Thank god for the service warranty.

The timing belt broke. Then I learned about interference. I have to replace the timing belt, the tensioner, the camshaft pulley and the water pump(the timing belt banged up the pump housing).

Whew, thought I got off easy. Now the head has to be pulled. And I am scared of the verdict.
