What engine oil? 1800 1970

This may seem like a stupid question, but what weight oil should I be running in my B20E big bore. The engine has about 20K since the rebuild, doesn't run hot and doesn't burn any oil (although it seeps out the head gasket and comes out the oil cap a bit (PCV system is in fine order).

As I recall from owning an 1800 many, many years ago, the recommended was 10w-40.
