Fuel pump whine 200 1992

Guys,

Planning a big 5000mi Europe round trip this summer and started to focus a bit more on technical state of old trusty 92 240 with 170kmiles.

When the tank level drops to less than 1/4 I can clearly hear a whining noise from the back. Clearly we are talking tank fitted transfer pump. Whining goes up and down a bit (together with slightly unsteady idle) but does not seem to effect the power of the car. It's kinda handy as it tells me its time to fill up.

Replaced main fuel filter, no change, but never opened up for filter sock check.

Anyhow, are we talking replacing to ensure proper operation or is this something that keeps on going for years like with so many 240 quirks?

Have not checked pump amps, what should it be reading?

Your experiences are much appriciated
