New Volvo Owner - Should I take my '94 960 to a dealer? 900 1994

I will pick up my 1994 960 next week from a part-time dealer. I have never owned a Volvo before. This dealer does not have any service history on the car other than a new timing belt at 100K miles. The car now has 147K miles and the dealer will replace the timing belt before delivery.
I thought I might take the car to a local Volvo dealer for its first service appointment and to establish a base line for future service. My dealer says Volvo dealers are too expensive and I should go to a local mechanic.
BTW, the car seemed fine; no leaks that I could see; good oil color; good test drive; no easily identifiable body damage.

Lastly, does anyone have experience with satellite radio in these cars?

Thank you for any advice and suggestions.
