search for vacume leaks 200 1990

my OBD is giving me a 2-3-2 code, and my engine is running really rich. i just put new spark plugs in 2 days ago and there is already a lot of carbon build up on them. i've got a few leads on what to do from the board - one being to replace the ECT.
a coworker told me to spray some carburator cleaner "gumout" around the intake manifold and related hoses while the engine is running. he said that if there is a vacume leak the idle will go up.
it sounds like a great test but that stuff is really flamable. i'm worried that it will ignite.
is this a fairly safe test - is it a good idea?
also does anyone know a good way to test the ECT without having to remove the intake manifold (removing it seems like a big ordeal)?

thanks
adam
