Ignition switch question??? 200 1980

Art,
I was using a digital VOM not a test light. So what I thought was pulsing turns out it wasn't. I've been looking at wiring diagrams and it appears the negative terminal is also fed by the fuel pump relay. If this were to short to ground, would that cancel out the pulses. The reason I ask is that along with the short burst of spark occuring when I stop cranking, I also get a brief flash when I on the test light I rigged up. The weird thing is that I get a good coil resistance when I check the connectors at the module, so why no pulses? I'm taking my wiring diagrams out with me tomorrow and checking wires end to end. At this point I don't know what else to do. This is driving me nuts!!! Thanks for all your help to this point. BTW, I used an old tail lamp socket and bult with gator clips to act as a test light, this should flash correct?
Thanks again...
