In tank fuel pump problem? 700 1986

Volvo 740 Turbo 1986. Is my in tank fuel pump not working properly?

I have recently replaced the external fuel pump and this solved my problem of the engine cutting out.

I have noticed that when the tank is less than half full, the relay makes a buzzing sound that gets louder as fuel level goes down. When the tank is full, theres no noise from the relay. Also when tank is full the fuel gauge swings from from full to empty when going around corners. When tank is half full, I have no problem with the fuel gauge.

Do I need to replace the in tank fuel pump or can I just ignore this noise? Any other ideas?

Many thanks
