oil pressure gauge install questions 200 1990

I've been trying to figure out exactly how to install an oil pressure gauge in my 1990 240. It has the oil "idiot light," so do I still need the sender? Or if I do need the sender, is the car otherwise prewired. The Haynes manual wiring diagram seems to indicate that the car is already prewired for this and includes the sender, but I have heard so much conflicting information about all this I would appreciate it if anyone could explain.
