How do I keep the car still at traffic lights 700

I am having autobox installed in my manual diesel on Friday and was wondering, many drivers that I know of cars with autoboxes leave the box in drive and keep the foot on the brake pedal when they are waiting at traffic lights. Won't that wear the transmission down?
