Transmission Pan Dropped, No Dogs Barking 900

My son's '95 944Ti, 99.6Kk, no history, did not have a pipe hanger in the way so we, father & son, figured we'd drop the tranny pan prior to the flush on the AW71. Of course the filler pipe fittings were frozen so we removed the two bolts holding the filler pipe. That was fun. It is easier to get to the upper bolt with about 3' of extensions. (Thanks to Bob for that tip.)

Chris Herbst and others plus a tech bulletin said that it was not necessary to clean out the pan and change the filter. I have to learn the hard way. There were no dogs barking in this pan. It was very clean. No build up of sludge like I'm used to in other cars. There was a wimpy magnet in the pan which collected very little metal fuzz. The wire mesh filter was clean too.

The color of the fluid was just slightly off the bright red. It could have had several drain and fills or a flush 20-30k miles ago. Just don't know.

We refilled and did a fluid flush with Walmart's brand and plan on a synthetic flush in about 1.5k. The elcheapo tranny fluid is used as a "cleaner" prior to the expensive synthetic flush.
