heater control valve replacement- parts & procedure? 700 1988

I am going to replace my heater control valve as it is leaking.
I haven't been able to actually look at it yet (as it is at the garage), though I hear it is a fairly simple procedure. I would very much appreciate it if anyone who was familiar with the procedure could 'give me a clue'.
Also, I was wondering about the quality of varying replacement parts. Instinctually, it would seem as though the all metal version from Mission Trading Co. would be the way to go, though I heard that it was 'a piece of sh*t', and aftermarket wise, the 4-seasons was the way to go. I would like to uase the original part, though its $55 price compared to less than $20 for the aftermakets doesn't quite fit my humble budget. Any insights deeply appreciated, and much thanks!
