'clunking noise' S90-V90 1998

When I first got my '95 960 at 180,000 km, it had a clunk when turning left slowly on a bumpy surface. The previous owner had complained more than once, but the dealer was never able to cure this. Turned out the right ball joint (bottom of strut) was worn. Later the same thing appeared on the left side - same problem, same cure - replacement of ball joint. This time I drilled the ball joint for a zerk fitting so I can now lube it. Now the right ball joint is starting to make the same noise (240,000 km). I guess I should have taken it off and installed a zerk fitting before it started to wear. By the way, I drive in a heavy roead salt area.
