Replacing Hall Sensor plastic connector 200 1986

Isolated no spark condition to being a grounded Hall sensor against the distributor because of a broken plastic connector (dead for a $6 piece) I have removed the 3 wires from the old connector and vacuumed out the remaining broken pieces in the distributor. To install the new connector do I need to remove remove the hall sensor. It appears to be held in by 4 screws. Do I remove these screws lift up the interior of the distributor, install the wires in the connector and slide the connector down? I'm afraid to force the connector in from the side for fear of breaking it (with my luck).
