Removing lower window trim on rear window of '84 wagon. 200 1984

Hi all,
I am thinking of removing the clunky looking trim under the windows on the wife's 245, the doors are easy just pry off with a screwdriver and replace with the newer style. The rear windows however seems to be a bit harder. I did my usual go to the PNP and test on a junker, but the trim seems to run under the weatherstripping that holds the window in and I ended up trashing it. Has anyone removed these without damage? Am I missing something easy. I hate to just trash the ones in the PNP till I find out the trick.
Thanks
