Oil flushing? good or bad idea? 700 1989

My B230FT is pushing 170,000 miles and I want to switch over to synth oil. I don't think the last owner took very good care of the engine. Sooo, I was wondering about these oil flushing products. Are they a good idea in the first place and furthermore, are they a good idea on a turbo ('cause of the extra oil lines to the turbo and the sensitivity of the bearings and what not). I read the faq on switching to synth oil and I don't think I want to go through the many oil and filter changes that were recommended. So, what you guys think?
