Opinions re: 10W-30 vs.10W-40 900

Now I know the owners manual specs. 10W-30 for 93&94 NA 940's....but, I have used 10W-30 in my 93 945 with 84K for the last year and it runs fine. In January, I picked up a 94 944 NA with 92K for my kid. It is a bit noisier in the engine then my 93. What are opinions regarding using 10W-40 in the higher mileage brick? What is the downside? What are the positives if any?

I've already been to the BOBISTHEOILGUY.com website....one can spend weeks reading about oil and filters there! Oil and filter info. overload!
