Experts .. Help this Thick as a Brick Chick!!!! 200

Thanks so much for all of your input, it really has helped alot. We're closer, and have her running at a smooth idle now, but when we put her into gear she stalls. A few times we were able to get her to go up and down the driveway but that was it. You could give her gas a few times, but it was a rough run. All the fuses have been checked and cleaned now, they look okay, and the throttle switch is now clicking.
My brother believes he has it narrowed down to two things:
The AMM. Question: When you pull it off, and try the car without it plugged in, is it normal for it to go into gear, move on idle, but then stall when you give it gas? It says in the manual that this is an expensive and non-returnable part and I can't afford to replace something expensive unless we know for sure that it's the problem.
Idle Air Control Valve. Question: I found info in the archives on how to test this, does this sound like it may be the culprit?
Somebody on another post talked about a big red wire that runs from the battery, could that be something to look at? And also, the 25 AMP fuse, even though it looks good, could it still be the problem? Any other ideas as to where to go from here? We're determined to get her running! Thanks ~claudie~
