Speaker clicking 700 1986

I've been having a problem with my speakers making a steady clicking sound that doesn't vary with engine speed or the volume of the system. The sound comes from a full range speaker box in the back of my car. I have high quality RCA's that are run on the opposite side of the car as my power cable, but on the same side as the antenna. I believe I have ruled out the antenna by disconnecting it at the back of the head unit and playing a cd and still hearing the clicking. So, I'm about at the end of my troubleshooting stage and all I can think to do is disconnect the pre-pump in the gas tank. I'll do this of course with the tank full and only for a short time. My amps are in the spare tire area which I believe is close to the gas tank.

Since normally my audio system turns on momentarily after the key is turned, then I could keep it on by powering the remote wire even with the key off, then when I turn the key, the pre-pump will start, right? If the pump does turn on, then if the pump is at fault I should hear clicking before I start the car.

How can I safely disable the pre-pump? Is it powered by the fuse that is for the 'fuel pump'?
