Wipers shut car down 200 1990

Going to work this morning (25 miles) it was raining hard enough that I was switching between high and low wipers the entire trip. I got to within 500 feet of work and the car quit. I had a new O2 sensor and a complete tune-up last week and the idle was set pretty low, so I thought with the wet weather maybe it was enough to get something (plug wires, distrib.) wet and bog the car down. It started right back up but the wipers were inop. This afternoon I started the car at work and the wipers were back on. Drove home with the delay wipers on with no problem. Fuse is good (#2, 16amp) and the wiper motor was warm from use but nothing too warm there. Some slight corrosion on the 4 prong plug at the motor and that's cleaned up. Relay going bad and would that be enough to shut the car down? Would a relay reset its self once it cooled down? Where is the damn thing??
