Eliminate the relay and the wiring. I had the same thing happen to me over a year ago. It's most probably your overdrive relay, located behind (more like to the left) of the glove box. it's made of white plastic and you cannot miss it. Over time due to the varying interior temp, the solder joints in the relay begin to crack. All I did was re-solder all the connection. Worked like a charm!

The other thing you should check is your kickdown cable. It might be be stuck preventing it from going into overdrive. Either lube it or replace it...
