The GT braces you refer to were original equipment equipment on the '79 GT. They tie the strut tower to the firewall. They do help. The biggest help is a transverse brace (strut to strut). They make a big improvement as previously described. The design that flexes the least is the best. Before you add a strut brace, make sure the rest of the front suspension is up to spec.
