changing instrument panel lights-neon? and first gear griiinds.. 200 1985

Ok I keep my shiny black and chrome 240 in as close to original condition as possible, with a few exceptions-I found the shiny chrome mirrors off an old 244 fit nicely and compliment her...as did the chrome cornerpiece trimplates at the top rear above the back windows...but I recently noticed and admired the red lit up instrument panel in a new volkswagon..and thought..hmmmm.niiiice...does anyone know if the white bulbs can be replaced with the neon or coloured ones? Another quickie..does anyone have a manual transmission brick- I always have to come to a FULL AND COMPLETE stop before she'll even think of letting me put her in first gear..can this be adjusted so I don't get that GRIIIND..or something I just have to live with? thanx as always -Dehaven.
