od relay 700

As per instructions, took out my relay but could'nt find any cracks, so instead wedged a piece of folded paper to keep the little contact in the off position and it has been working fine for two days now ie.- no random od engagement because no od at all-which I never used anyway.This seems so simple that I question the wisdom/safety to trasns.of what I've done! Any ideas?
