The Volvo accessory scoop that I have which may or may not be the same one that IPD sells is called a "snow cap" and is meant to minimize the amount of snow, leaves, etc. from getting into the vent area and thereby blocking sufficient air intake into the car. As described, it does what it it was intended to do. I didn't notice any noticeable improvement in airflow, but that's not why I bought it.
