Sorta reminds me of the time I moved about 6 or 7 years ago... we moved down the street, around the corner. I brought two semi-decommissioned VW's with me. We had a 66 which really was just a shell- just gone back together after a total body rebuild. No engine, the front suspension was just cobbled together, in one case just a cotter pin keeping a tie rod end in. No brakes at all. The transaxle had been hurriedly reinstalled to give it rear suspension (swingaxle car). It was downhill to the new place..... so at about 11PM, we shoved off. Turned out the drums dragged so badly it wouldn't really keep rolling even downhill. A couple friends helped. And we got to the corner, turned out on the other street... and a wheel fell off! I guess I just never tightened the lug bolts, and just snapped on a hubcap. Damn I can be stupid sometimes. Or forgetful. Hmm. Fixed that one in the street and continued without incident-- I don't remember what we pushed it up the driveway with. Maybe a Subaru.
So the other car, which I still have, is a '71 Type 3 Notchback. Rare and unusual car. This one hadn't been taken apart but sat for quite a while. Still had brakes, and steering, though the engine didn't run and it wasn't too keen on rolling either. We had a battery in it, and I think a light or two worked. It's about 12:30AM by this time. We got halfway down the street (it's only 250 steps between the two houses) and a cop came by the other way. He stopped, my friends didn't... .kept right on pushing. He said something about he'd drive around the block and we shouldn't be there when he got back.
Got to the driveway (which is uphill) and it was too hard to push.... walked it up the driveway and out of sight using the starter motor. It was a little hot afterwards but it did do it!
People ask me why I'd never want to move again....
