SURVEY: Scan Tech parts 700

Lately there's been an outbreak of posts reporting problems with Scan Tech parts, and I'd love to compile a list of Must Avoids, as well as Worked OKs and Worked Greats.

When we're getting ready to do some work on our Bricks, we all know that Volvo-brand parts will generally offer excellent quality and fitment, but then we see the price, and see the equivalent Scan Tech piece for half that, and start thinking... Hmm, maybe the ST one will be OK...

Often lately that has not been the case. On the other hand, sometimes the aftermarket part work great, or even OK, and the $$$ saved can really add up.

What has you experience been?

I'll kick things off with my own experience ('93 945T):

+ Wagon overload rear springs - from FCP: I had initial questions about the fitment, but very satisfied now. Fully loaded, the rear end sags much less than with old stock springs, and ride quality is good. Only had 'em in for a couple weeks... will see how they hold up.

+ Front turn signal: fit and appearance is very good. Overall build quality is lower than original (ie rough edges in the back)

+ Tail lamp assembly - wagon: appearance is good; fit is OK. Gasket is much wimpier than original (Cibie)... tried to fit the new assembly with old gasket, but didn't work. Build quality is lower than original, but overall looks good & works.

Having seen others' posts about ST lamp assemblies, I'm expecting these to fade prematurely... but I have a penchant for breaking the things, so I figure if 2 years from now I have a faded, unbroken ST lamp I've come out ahead.

I have avoided Scan Tech parts when replacing ball joints, cone bushings, and pinion seal... but mainly because other aftermarket brands were availble for just a little more $$$...
