innaccurate odometer 200 1984

I recently undertook the odometer repair on my '84 242 GLTI
and the odometer now is working fine, however the odometer
seems to be off. It wont sit still but just wobbles no matter
what speed I'm at. And the readings seem to be a bit off
I'm not sure by how much.

while I was taking the guage a apart I also wanted to grease the gears
on the rear of the housing. There is a blue disc here with two metal rings
around it that mates with the front of the housing via a silver plate
with a pin in it(the pin holding the needle). Anyway I unknowingly
removed the rings from the disc only to discover I they didn't hold
down anything and promptly replaced them. I think they're there for the
cruise control speed pickup. But my quesition is do those rings affect
the calibration of of the speedometer?

I don't think the cable is bad b/c i have an older cluster
temporarily installed w/ the 85mph speedo and it works fine.

So basically I have a 120 speedo with an odo that works but
reads the speed inacccuratley. It seems like the need struggles
or just doens't move as it used to. I honestly don't know where to
go with this so anyhelp would be greatly appreaciated. If you need
more info just let me know

Thnks,
Drew
