Looking at a 122S...help!? 120-130

The 122S means dual sidedraft carbs, as opposed to the 121 with a single, small, downdraft carb (never marketed in the U.S. but common elsewhere). Those SU carbs are most commonly worn out -- check the throttle shafts for play where they pass through the carb bodies (not the linkage bar between the carbs; some slop there is normal). That's a few hundred $$$ of rebuilding.

Whatever happened behind the steering wheel cowl, it's easily accessible once you get the wheel off, which may or may not be a struggle.

It's a very simple car to work on -- very! -- and apart from rust, there really aren't many weak points to watch out for, keeping in mind that it's a 35 year old machine or some such. Parts are generally available and not unduly expensive. It's as tough as a 240.

One warning: It's FAR more addictive than a 240. Watch yourself.

8^)
