Hgh beams mean lights out 700 1990

On my 1990 760 turbo, sometimes when I turn my hi-beams off it causes all of my exterior lights to go off. My interior light and parking lights still work but all frontward projection that could say help see curves in the road is missing. This problem is a little spooky, especially on the fine PA roads I'm driving on. If I pull over and work for a while turning my lights on and off and turning my hi-beams on and off eventually I get my low-beams to turn on again and I continue using only the low-beams. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Better yet, does anyone know a way I can fix this problem?

Appreciate any and all help,

Duff
