Gas splashback at fillup, all 740s? 700 1988

'88 745t.

This is the first car I've had that will burp gas all over itself at any station when you leave the fuel nozzle on auto for a fill up. Is it because of that elbow in the pipe just past the filler neck?

Anyone else having this happen. Every other car I've had, including my 855t, will trip the shutoff on the nozzle as gas makes it's way back up the pipe.

Any fix other than slowing the flow for the last few gallons?
