Cam problems 700 1987

I have a 1987 780 with the V6 in it. Recently the car has started making an awful sound (much like a collapsed lifter which makes no sense since its overhead cam). I did some research online and founf out that there was a lubrication problem with this engine. I've been unable to find out specifics on what fails in the valve train on this car so I was wondering if anyone knows what this might be and about how much to repair?
