turbo boost problem? 700

I've noticed lately when my car shifts into 3rd gear it feels like the turbo is struggling. It is hard to described exactly what it feels like... it is kind of like a struggling or slowing down feeling. Then the turbo slowly starts to build speed again. It doesn't happen all the time but frequently enough to be annoying. In 1st and 2nd gear the turbo acts normally. Is this possibly just a leak in one of the turbo hoses? or something worse? The car doesn't blow any black smoke during acceleration. BTW the car has 156k miles on its original turbo.
