I need your help again!! Quick, before @#$%&*$ boyfriend gets under hood......... 200

Hi gang, Here I am again with a whole new problem. Put in a new rotor inside the distributor,(my boyfriend did), and she fired up just fine. Drove her around town with no problems. Went to fire her up later that evening and nothing. Boyfriend jumped car, winshhield wiper flapped so fast accross window I thought it would take flight. He gets in car, we start cruising, and notice the guages are pegged. Then the headlights both fry at the same time, but the high beams still work. Take it directly home and park it but she doesn't want to turn off!! Isn't that special............ Had to put in gear and kill it the old fashioned way. I did a very brief underhood investigation(Ihave a 3 yr old & 9 mo. old both with the flu!)and noticed the wire that geoes from the middle of the dist. cap to the ignition coil has a burned off section where the fuzzy white insulation stuff is peeking through. This cannot be good. Other than that I am open and ready for you seasoned brick owners advice and help..............please!! My @#$%&$* boyfriend is lurking around my open hood.......aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Thanks in advance,

Payne
