OD problem... 900 1993

my 940T (1993) is doing something very strange. the OD arrow light will come on, the tranny will shift out of overdrive all by itself. hitting the OD button has no effect, the light stays on. this happens hot or cold. then just as suddenly the light will go off and the tranny will shift properly.

the car was runing very well before, a little turbo lag, a little oil burn but nothing serious for a car with over 140,000 miles.

any help would be appreciated!
