air conditioning - fix or no? ('84, 240 turbo wagon) 200

So, when I bought my 240 used, the airconditioner worked, in the sense that it emitted air, but not necessarily cool air. I have heard that sometimes old airconditioners just need new parts - but I don't know what parts - or how much it would cost to do. Is it worth it - probably because I will be doing a lot of driving with kids this summer. Of course, money IS an object. Does anyone know what it is I have to do to get the air to be cold when it is pumping into my Sweede?
