reposted from Volvo Tales 200

I bought a 1979 245DL station wagon about a year ago. It was the proverbial only driven by an old lady on sunday to go to church car. Had 73,000 original miles (all the oil change receipts were in the glove box) Paid $650.00. Since it was parked for about 5 years in the hot Texas sun the paint is faded, front seat was rotten out and someone helped themself to the radio.

I was having an intermitten problem with the engine quiting, poor acceleration, choking and missing. One mechanic changed plugs and wires. Ok for about a week, then changed the internal fuel pump. Good for a day. Took it back said maybe it was the external fuel pump. Enough of him. Took it to the dealer, again changed plugs and wires, internal fuel pump, (said should not have allowed aftermarket parts) changed external pump and relay. Good for a couple of weeks. That darn ticking noise ... When the engine would quit I could immediately get it started by pulling and reinserting the fuel pump fuse. Took it to Specialty import repair, they cleaned fuse termal block and replaced all the fuses, it has been running keen for a year. Last week came out of work and needed a jump to get
started, when ever I put the turn signal on the fuel pump hum cycled with the the blinker. Had the alternator tested... Bad the original Bosch part..Replaced it with an aftermarket part. Ran fine for a week, plugged my cell into the lighter outlet and heard a chattering under the dash. Now once again something is not right. On cold start the fuel pump hum changes pitch when I brake, and the chatter starts when I accelerate. Could there be something to the aftermarket part theory? Or did I fry something when I plugged my cell in?
