my 245 stinks of gas when I make hard lefts. 200

I have a 82 245 ( K-Jet), if I make sharp lefthand turns, gas escapes through the gas cap, runs out the drain hole, and wets the side of the rear panel. I wondering if there is supposed to be a baffle in the filler tube, or if maybe the system is supposed to be sealed. Of course the cap is not original, basically I want to know if the system is supposed to be sealed and I have the wrong cap, or is it just a bad design issue and if so what are other solutions.
p.s. I drive hard, so slowing down isn't really an option.
Thanks as always, Patrick.
