More specific S90-V90 1997

About 2 minutes of boiling water (more than a gallon) running from the exhaust tube hole toward the airbox hole produced about 1/8 opening. Is this thing designed to open very slowly or is the air from the exhaust much hotter than boiling water at sea level? I think the engine is gulping hot air all the time and some cold air. I thought cold air was good for engines. Cold air = dense air = power right? Will my car not pass emissions anymore if I go through with this modification. I can't imagine that the engine is designed to get hot air all the time. I'm going to do the modification and see what happens.
