twice a nonstarter 700 1986

hello fellow brickheads. I've an 86 740 gle noturbo. 260k miles Stranded twice. turned the key--nothing. Tapping the key allowed starting the first time. The second time tapping and jiggling the key and banging the dashboard under the ignition switch caused the dash warning lights to flicker a lot. There was sometimes a clicking under the hood and/or a crackling sound (arcing) poor connection somewhere?--around or under the injectors I think. It sounded like bacon frying only not as loud. After much banging and key turning the car turned over but seemed fuel starved. A lot of pumping on the accelerator and it finally started. I drove home (20 miles) and the car ran stronger and smoother than ever. At home it started great with no flickering of dash lights at all. Of course it always does this away from home. Thank you muchly for your time and any advice.
