Driving from PA to OK, CO, or TX. . .what to fix in advance? 200 1987

I graduated from penn state last week, and in about a month, i start training for Halliburton in either duncan, OK, Denver, CO, or Brighton, TX. I'll most likely be driving my 240, and with the next month off, i'd like to do some work on it. Lately, we've been on the "fix it when it breaks" plan, so a lot of the regularly scheduled maintenace hasn't been done (like changing trans fluid. . .first on my list right now). I'd like to stop that trend in favor of some preventive maintenance. Any ideas of where to start? what to replace?
