Wipers Slowing To A Crawl 200 1979

hello all,
i'm wondering if anyone has some insight on how to 'lubricate' the windshield wiper mounting posts through the firewall.
since this past new england winter my '79 245 has taken a beating and the wipers have since slowed to a crawl. i thought the motor was dieing (well it maybe) but i disconnected it and ran it without the wiper arms connected and it works fine. i then tried moving the wipers manually and discovered that they are very very stiff.
i've looked under the passenger side dash and the connecting linkage is all 'free' so my next best guess is that it's something in the posts or around the posts, like where it goes throught the firewall.
anyone have experience in lubing these things or repairing this PiTA thing?
