85 Volvo 740 GLE: Windshield Wiper Arm Troubles 700

To All,

I have a 1985 Volvo 740 GLE Sedan (non-Turbo). I am experiencing a problem with the wiper blade arms remaining "tightly" connected to wiper motor stems.

One of the stems that holds the wiper blade arm is stripped. I also noticed that the cylindrical surfaces (holes) of both wiper arms that attach to the stems are smooth. Are these possibly stripped also? Should there be
etches in the metal so that it will grab the etches at the base of the
stems?

My solution for the stipped stem is to rethread it. What can I do about the wiper arm holes? Should I purchase the wiper arms new? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The cost of a whole new wiper arm assembly is forbidden.

Best Regards,

DevoFan
