You are not alone. My wife has a heavy foot, and abuses the car some. I could not get her to back out of the driveway and come to a complete stop before shifting the manual transmission into first. While still going backward at about 5 mph, she would force the transmission into first gear, and then use the clutch to stop and accelerate the car forward. Eventually the M46 couldn't take it anymore and the first gear synchro went away. Now that I have replaced the M46, she has decided to come to a complete stop, when traveling backward, before shifting into first gear.

Why wouldn't she listen before ruining the transmission?
