handbrake cabling... 700 1992

Sounds like the long cable has broken, but a visual inspection will verify this. If so, you need access to the handbrake lever by removing the plastic casing around it. At the rear, remove the appropriate brake disc/drum so the brake shoes can be accesssed - this is where the cable connects. The cable routing under the car and up inside is awkward. Best done using ramps or over an inspection pit. The handbrake does go "dead" even with only one broken cable. Good luck.
