Problem with seal between water pump and heater line 200 1989

Well, our '89 240 wagon started leaking coolant a few weeks ago, and finally got bad enough it wasn't safe to drive, so I tried to fix it. It was leaking coolant from between the heater line and the water pump, so I ordered a new water pump, and replaced it. For once the Bentley manual wasn't completely clear on something, but I managed to get the new water pump installed. It was still leaking from the same place.

I ended up pulling the steel line off to inspect it, and it looked like it was ok (a little rusty, but no apparent leaks), and discovered I had torn the rubber seal between the heater line and water pump. I had installed it in the water pump, and then pushed the heater line in, when I should have installed the rubber seal on the heater line and the pushed it into the pump. I got the seal off of our '90 parts car which was still intact (as was the original seal on the '89), and reinstalled the seal and heater line. It still leaks from the back of the water new water pump at the heater line junction. I'm about at my wit's end. Am I torqueing down the bolt and nut too much and crimping the seal? Is the old seal likely shot even though it looks ok, and all I need is a new seal (installed properly)? Any other ideas as to what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it? Is the seal available by itself at a Volvo dealer?
