87/740Turbo - Airbox Questions??'s Running Rich ???... Help (please)

Hello, i'm having some trouble with my 87 740turbo. recently it started running really rich, right upon startup. i can smell gas in the exhaust too. i started poking around under the hood and for some reason found that the flapper gasket in the turbo airbox has a very corroded gasket. there is no way it could form a seal in there. this probably has nothing to do with the running rich thing, but concerned me a bit. what would this affect...(on this note, i really can't find a replacement flapper without having to buy a whole airbox)
as for the running rich problem, i'd like to note that we just recently (about a week ago) had an alternator go out and we pulled off the road, just as the fuel injection was starting to loose power from the depleted battery. could i have damaged the injectors? or a sensor?
the first time i noticed it, the car started rich, ran horribly, and after a minute or so something must have reset itself, because it worked fine. the problem has gotten worse the few times i have driven it. now it really bogs down upon accelleration and i notice it almost flooding itself at highway speeds. it's parked waiting for help... Thanks for any tips. Tracey
