Changing rear springs on a 1986 244 200 1986

Hello -

I am going to be using a trailer soon, and I have on hand a set of rear springs from a wagon. I will be installing the trailer hitch Friday, and it occurs to me that putting in the wagon springs would be a good idea.

AFAIK the springs are held in by compression and a bolted plate in the bottom of the coil. So, my question is this - can the spring swap be done by removing that bolted plate and then using a spring compressor to remove the spring?? That would save the work required to unhook the shock absorbers, since I am not planning to replace the shocks at this time.

Thanks,

Bob
