Overheat and stalling 1800 1970

Hey everyone, tradegy strikes :(

My gf's 1800E overheated yesterday while idling. I guess aparently it would start to heat up and then would start missing and would die. Any ideas?

On a side note, they've had issues ever since installing their pertronix kit with the Tach quiting out on it.. works fine with points?

Only thing I can think of is its over heating, and as a result its bumping the timing to compensate (some of my older muscle cars did this) and its to much and its missing?
