Overheat and stalling 1800 1970

Mine has a vacume retard and disconnecting it really helped with the overheating at an idle. Also when the engine overheats it realy throws the F.I. out of whack whitch is probably why it dies. George is right. The fan just doesn't pull enough air at an idle to cool the radiator. One time my fan clutch was going bad and it was binding a little and for that whole time my car would never overheat. I almost decided to leave the bad one on it because it cooled so much better, but I started to worry about it causing other problems and replaced it. Now it overheats again. I think that with an electric auxiliary fan in front of the radiator it would never overheat.
